Ride-hailing company Bolt has dismissed as fake a viral letter circulating on social media claiming that the company would cease operations in Kenya on June 8, 2026.

The purported notice, which was widely shared online on Monday, alleged that Bolt had decided to exit the Kenyan market following challenges in addressing driver concerns while maintaining a sustainable business model.

However, the company has now publicly refuted the claims, clarifying that the letter is not authentic and that its operations in Kenya remain unaffected.

In a statement shared on social media, Bolt termed the document fake and urged customers, drivers, and members of the public to disregard the information.

The clarification comes after the alleged notice sparked concern among thousands of drivers and customers who rely on the platform for daily transport and income. The viral document had claimed that Bolt would stop operating in Kenya from June 8 and advised users to make alternative arrangements before the supposed closure date.

The fake notice also carried the name of a senior company official, giving it an appearance of authenticity and fueling speculation about the company’s future in the country.

Bolt’s swift response has now put those concerns to rest, with the company affirming that it is continuing to serve customers and driver-partners across Kenya.

The incident highlights the growing challenge of misinformation on social media, where forged corporate communications can spread rapidly and trigger public confusion before being verified.

Customers and drivers have been encouraged to rely on official Bolt communication channels for accurate updates regarding the company’s operations and services.

As of Monday evening, Bolt had not announced any plans to suspend or shut down its Kenyan operations.
